Notes on Math Daily 3 from Book Study

Math Daily 3
The book describes how to use the framework of the Daily 5 to implement a math workshop. The book describes a structure of a large group mini-lessons of 7-10 minute each sandwiched between choice rounds during which students are choosing (or directed) to work on tasks categorized as Math by Myself, Math Writing, or Math with Someone.
The meeting included a discussion of how any type of Math Tubs, Math Stations, Math Workshop, or independent math work meets the same goals. As an example, Meaghan is using a six-station rotation in her classroom this year. Math time in first grade includes two rotations of math stations (math writing, partner math, math work (fact practice), math by myself, guided math (teacher group for intervention/enrichment/assessment), and math technology (SkillsTutor) followed by the daily Saxon lesson in a large group.

Math Daily 3/Daily5/6 is not necessary for inclusion into a Daily 5 classroom… the chapter is included as a guide for how to apply Daily 5 guidelines into other parts of the classroom day. Some classrooms even use the workshop model in content (science and social studies) lessons.
